Overview

This webinar will provide an introduction to what carbon offsetting means, in the context of corporate sustainability transitions and net zero planning. The voluntary carbon offsetting market will be explained and major players outlined. Different types of carbon credits will be highlighted. An overview of how offsets are treated in upcoming reporting regulation such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will be provided.

Dr Fabiola I. Schneider
 

Fabiola is Assistant Professor in Accountancy at University College Dublin (UCD). As an Ad Astra Fellow, her research is dedicated to advancing UCD’s strategic theme of creating a sustainable global society. Previously Fabiola was appointed Asst. Prof of Finance at Dublin City University (DCU).

Fabiola's current research addresses the climate emergency and sustainable transitions, with papers on fossil fuel financing published in peer-reviewed journals. Moreover, publications on ESG reporting and impact investing are in progress. Her PhD thesis at the University College Dublin (UCD) Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School revolved around climate transition accounting and finance.

This research is complemented with engagement on the European Commission’s Platform on Sustainable Finance, working on the EU Green Taxonomy. Fabiola co-leads GreenWatch, which applies AI to detect Greenwashing in the market. She has international teaching experience at undergrad, postgrad and post-experience level, both in person and virtually. Moreover, she has industry experience in corporate finance and supply chains, as well as solar development.
