Derek Andrews is a tax advisor with 20 years experience in tax planning.  He is a co-founder of Andrews Tax Consulting, a tax consultancy firm that specialises in tax management and business strategy to companies and individuals in manufacturing, life science, software development, aviation and agrifood industries.  They also provides in-house and bespoke professional consultancy support to accountancy and legal firms throughout Ireland.

Topic:
During the course Derek Andrews will discuss 15 common problems faced by owner-managed businesses and companies arising from changes in tax law and the downturn. 
The presentation will benefit accountants and tax professionals that advise on close company issues, solvent liquidations, tax-efficient cash extraction and asset-protection.  Real cases from 2011 will be examined to identify the relevant tax law, risk management issues and possible solutions.  Knowledge of these issues will enable accountants to add value to their business and better protect their client base.

The issues to be addressed during the seminar will include:
• How to ensure retirement relief treatment on liquidation of a company with surplus cash exceeding €250,000.
• Minimising exposure to benefit-in-kind and withholding tax on director's loans
• Planning to avoid the professional close company surcharge.
• Transfer cash between unconnected companies without having to creating a group (resulting in an audit)
• How to access dwelling house relief to provide for a tax-free inheritance to a child of over €1m.
• The valuation of shares in private companies when tax planning.
• Unwinding patent structures.
• Ensure entitlement to 12.5% rate of corporation tax for foreign companies.
• Stamp duty and capital gains tax tips and anti-avoidance rules when transferring business property and other assets to a company.
• Avoid triggering deferred roll-over relief on assets no longer used for trading purposes.
