With guest speaker: Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director - Cork Airport, Ireland
Niall MacCarthy is Managing Director of Cork Airport, the second largest airport in the Republic of Ireland with an extensive route network which now comprises 50 routes with 9 scheduled airlines. The airport will 2.6m pax in 2019 and has grown 25% over the last 4 years. This year the airport will grow by 8% which will make it the fastest growing airport in the Republic of Ireland.
Niall will reflect on his own journey from a trainee Chartered Accountant in practice through industry and ultimately into aviation. He will touch upon what is of interest and of concern to aviation in Europe right now based on his chair of the European regional airport industry body. He will also talk about current and planned developments in our own airport here in Cork and the current state of local tourism in Cork and Munster generally.
Cork Airport was voted best airport in Europe in its class by the Airport Council International in 2019. Cork Airport also won the prestigious World Routes Marketing Award for best B2B marketing to airlines in 2018 and was named Ireland’s most punctual airport 2018 by OAG. Cork Airport is one of four successful businesses making up daa plc which operates in Ireland and abroad. Niall also sits on the Executive Team of daa plc Group and is currently managing Brexit planning for the group. Niall is also Chair of the Airport Council International Regional Airports Forum representing the voice of over 400 of Europe’s airports centred around the industry body offices in Brussels.
With 20 years’ experience in airports, Niall is proud to lead the team at Cork having previously worked in other Irish airports. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Ireland by profession and before aviation worked in the Retail industry and before that trained in accountancy practice.
Niall is married with 5 children & lives in Belgooly, County Cork. Unsurprisingly, given the business he works in, he loves to travel in his spare time and explore new countries, foods and experiences.
