Speaker: Derek Andrews, Andews Consulting
Derek Andrews is a partner in Andrews Tax Consulting based in Dublin. He is an AITI Chartered Taxation Advisor and qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner with over 20 years' experience in advising on complex Revenue audits and investigations.
Many courses deal with the fundamentals of Revenue Audits by reference to the Audit Code of Practice and prevailing tax law. Frequently, the most difficult issue for advisors and businesses is knowing how to manage difficult situations and knowing when to be in a position to challenge Revenue. The workshop will reference relevant sections of the Revenue Audit Code of Practice and legislation, where necessary, to give advisors a practical insight into how difficult situations should be managed in practice.
Examples of issues that will be addressed include:
Invoking your client's charter of rights and constitutional rights
Challenging the basis for investigations
Information that must be provided to Revenue and denying Revenue access to information on transactions outside the audit period
Responding to requests for information and time limits imposed by Revenue
Negotiating deals with Revenue
How to deal with breakdowns with Revenue and to avoid matters going to Appeal
How to appeal an assessment and what to do when an Appeal is refused
Dealing with audits where there is no paper trail or clear outline of the Revenue approach
Putting in place a ‘fire alarm’ system for your clients for unannounced site visits
