Speakers
Gillian Duffy works in the Incentives and Financial Services Branch, where she primarily works on the development and interpretation of tax policy and legislation in relation to research and development tax credit under Section 766 of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997. She began her career wtih Revenue in 2008 in the Large Cases Division, where she was the Revenue case manager for a number of groups in the Healthcare and General Manufacturing Division. She has worked in the Corporate Business and International Division of Revenue since March 2014. Gillian holds a BSc in Business and Law from the DIT and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Management from the IPA.
Ian Collins is Head of the National R&D tax practice at EY in Ireland with responsibility for overall management and quality assurance of Irish R&D claims. He is an AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and a member of Chartered Accountants Ireland. Ian has been making R&D tax claims for clients in various industry sectors since the introduction of the Irish regime in 2004. He secured the first Irish Revenue pre-approval for a client in the software sector, encompassing a technical review by an industry expert engaged by Irish Revenue. He also conducts training seminars and workshops on R&D eligibility and claim process.
James Hughes is a Tax Manager in EY’s R&D and Quantitative Services team in Ireland. This is a multi-disciplinary team comprising of quantity surveyors, industry specialists and tax professionals. The core business of this team is to assist clients to evaluate, document and successfully complete claims for the R&D tax credit and capital allowances. James is an AITI Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). From an initial background in corporate tax, James has specialised in recent years to focus exclusively on the corporate tax reliefs sector, assisting SME’s and MNC’s alike. James has also conducted training seminars and lectures for corporates and industry groups on a variety of corporate tax topics.
