Topic
Synchronised Recovery;
Markets at Record Highs; Minimal Volatility.
Always look at the Bright Side of Life?
- Despite persistent headwinds, the Global Economy is in a synchronised recovery.
- Driven primarily by massive, unprecedented, emergency monetary policies – Zero Interest Rates and Quantitative Easing.
- These “emergency” measures have been in place for 9 years.
- Their impact on economic activity has been slow (until very recently).
- They had an immediate and dramatic effect on financial markets, driving bond yields to record lows and equities to record highs.
- But at what cost? Cash, bond and equity relationships distorted/extended and key investment fundamentals undermined.
- Bond and equity volatility has evaporated.
- But are the markets really low risk, given an upcoming “normalisation” of monetary policy?
- Is it time to invest as though you are in a high risk environment?
