FRS 102 – New Irish & UK GAAP.
FRS 102 will apply in practical terms from 1st January 2014. This event offers insights from a professional services firm’s perspective and provides practical guidance for implementing the new standard ahead of the transition date.
The topics covered will include technical guidance and practical examples on areas such as: making the transition; recognition and measurement of financial instruments; accounting for intra-group loans & guarantees; business combinations & goodwill; tangible fixed assets; government grants; employee benefits and more.
It will benefit both preparers and users of financial statements and enable them to appreciate how financial statements will be prepared under the new standard and how the new recognition and measurement principles will be applied in practice.
Aileen Daffy – Manager – Audit & Assurance
Aileen is a manager in our Limerick office and joined Grant Thornton as an audit trainee in 2002. Aileen has responsibility for training programmes provided to the firms’ trainee staff and looks after audit technical queries in the Limerick office.
Aileen has a wide range of experience in providing audit and assurance services to both international and domestic clients, from small owner managed operations to multinational and large manufacturing, service and retail companies.
Aileen has a wide range of experience in the not for profit sector. She has been involved in audit assignments for large charitable entities including; hospitals, educational establishments, registered charities and trusts.
She specialises in the provision of services to regulatory clients including law firms and auctioneering businesses. Aileen is an Associate of Chartered Accountants Ireland and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Accounting with first class honours from the University of Limerick. She holds Chartered Diplomas in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and in US GAAP.
Donnacha Howard - Manager Training & Standards
Donnacha joined the firm in 2013 having previously trained and worked with a big four firm for 6 years. Donnacha worked as an audit manager with a diverse portfolio ranging from small to medium Irish indigenous business to large, listed multinationals.
Donnacha is currently the firm’s technical manager and is responsible for advising and supporting the audit and advisory departments on accounting technical matters across various frameworks including:
• Irish/UK GAAP,
• IFRS,
• New Irish/UK GAAP – FRS 101 & FRS 102.
Donnacha has extensive experience in managing and driving large, complex group audits across multiple locations within a variety of businesses and industries such as healthcare, leisure and retail, technology, multinationals, shared-service centres, manufacturing, charities, and distribution companies.
Through his experiences working on such a diverse range of industries and clients, Donnacha gained exposure and proficiency in IFRS accounting, US GAAP/GAAS, Sarbanes Oxley and Irish/UK GAAP.
He works in a lead role on Grant Thornton’s FRS 102 committee which is responsible for developing the firm’s strategy for the transition to FRS 102. As part of his responsibilities in this regard, he provides technical advice both internally and externally, devises and presents training and informational courses for the firm, and publishes FRS 102 factsheets and technical releases.
As organisations make the transition to FRS 101 and FRS 102, Donnacha will work closely with them and assist in the transition process by providing management and staff training.
Donnacha is a member of the ICAI. He has a first class Degree in Accounting & Finance from Dublin City University
