David McGowan, entreprenuer, funeral director and owner of Quirky Glamping, Enniscrone, Co Sligo

David McGowan took the world by storm a year an a half ago when he achieved the amazing task of moving a decommissioned Boeing 767, by sea, from Shannon Airport to Enniscrone, Co. Sligo. Despite many, many obstacles in the course of this challenge, David managed to raise the spirits of the nation with his tongue-in-cheek interviews with Anton Savage on Today FM.

Thousands followed the ‘Big Yoke’ as it sailed the west coast with pride. The historical event saw the quiet seaside town of Enniscrone thronged with people of all ages, as an overwhelming feeling of good will spread throughout the country.

Social media was the main forum for the atomic spread of the story, and tv and radio stations followed. David has spoken on UTV with Pamela Ballentine, Bobby Kerr, and also on the Afternoon Show on RTE with Grainne Seoighe and Daithí Ó Sé. He most appeared recently on the Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy.

The aeroplane dream became a reality for David. However, this is not the first time David displayed courage as an entrepreneur, to realise his dream.

For over thirty years he has proven that good ideas convert to reality when combined with expertise and proper research founded on a vision of a better way of doing things.

David’s major passion has been the provision of a type of funeral service to the public that could not have been perceived here thirty years ago. His funeral homes are unequalled and he is surrounded by a staff who share his vision.

Quirky Nights Glamping Village is David’s current vision for making the West of Ireland a destination worth visiting. Visitors will come to Co. Sligo, not only for the obvious attraction of an aeroplane in a field, but more so for the belief in the inclusion of all people, that will make Enniscrone a very special place to visit in the years ahead.

Please join us for a wine and canapé reception after David's talk.
