Speaker: Minister for Justice and Equality, Alan Shatter

Alan Shatter is Minister for Justice and Equality, and a Fine Gael TD for the Dublin South Constituency. Minister Shatter was first elected to Dail Eireann in 1981 and he was appointed Minister for Justice and Equality in 2011. Minister Shatter has a Law Degree from Trinity College Dublin and studied European Law, Politics and Economics in the Europa Instituut of the University of Amsterdam. Minister Shatter is a qualified Solicitor and in 1977 he and Brian Gallagher founded the solicitor’s practice Gallagher Shatter. He published “Family Law in the Republic of Ireland” which is now in its 4th Edition and has regularly been referred to by members of the judiciary in judgments delivered in many major Irish family law cases. He is a former Consultant on Family Law to the Law Society of Ireland and continues to lecture occasionally and write on family law issues.
