Ann Doherty is Chief Executive of Cork City Council, an organisation with 1,250 staff and an annual spend of close to € 400m. When taking the reins in September 2014, Ann became both the first female chief executive of the Council and the first holder of that position to come from outside the local government sector.
Prior to joining the Council, Ann’s career was spent spent working in the health services of Ireland and the UK. Her first appointment was as a nurse in CUH. She commenced her management career in London and was appointed general manager of the Cork University Hospital Group in 2004. Later that year she became national director of the HSE and subsequently worked on its National Cancer Control Programme. Prior to joining Cork City Council Ann was CEO of the University of Limerick Hospitals Group.
Ann is a native of county Limerick, but has been living at Riverstick, near Kinsale, with her family since 1997.
