Performance Measurement - Past Present Future

Reference:ELL5
This event is now over.

with Michael Farrell, Lecturing in Accounting, DCU Business School

Commencing first with a recap on the traditional role of performance measurement within organisations, the lecture will then look at developments within the fields of management, strategy, and accounting that have brought us to the present day with measurement tools like the Balance Scorecard and the Performance Prism. We will also look at what the current research is telling us about Performance Measurement Systems (PMS) within organisations including:

  • The "correct" way to develop a PMS
  • How PMS can manage performance as well as report on performance
  • The psychological roles of PMS
  • The Yin-Yang application of PMS
  • How subjectivity in PMS is as much a help as a hindrance.

The lecture will conclude with a look to the future including how technological developments like Big Data and the increasing complexity of "typical" organisations will impact PMS.
