This 2 day course will address practical issues relating to the requirements of ISA in respect of audit planning and completion, as well as discussing efficiency issues, audit documentation, and the role of the Ethical Standards for Auditors. It will assist practices in preparing for monitoring visits and will also assist those who need to improve their standards as a consequence of a monitoring visit. The course will use case studies and practical examples throughout.
Day 1: Audit Planning & Completion:
• The Planning Process – including the identification of risk, materiality etc
• Complying with the Ethical Standards for Auditors
• File Completion Issues – including subsequent events, going concern etc
Day 2: Audit File Documentation:
• With the use of a case study, the course will address the audit recording requirements of bank & cash, debtors, creditors, fixed assets & stocks.
• Also discussed will be the issue of overauditing, impairment reviews and audit report issues.

Brendan is a Director of Mercia Ireland Ltd & Mercia NI Ltd. He has worked in practice and financial services for over 25 years and has lectured extensively for various colleges and professional bodies. He currently represents ACCA on the FRC Ireland Consultative Group, having previously been a member of the CCAB-I Insolvency panel, the Practice Note Committee for Credit Unions, and the Practice Note 21 Committee (which dealt with entities, such as insurance brokers, which are regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland).
Kathryn Burns ACA AITI CTA
Kathryn joined Mercia Ireland in 2008. She is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. She trained in Horwath Bastow Charleton (HBC) in Dublin and spent a further 2 years working in the Corporate Finance department of Farrell Grant Sparks (FGS) in Dublin, following which she worked as a technical executive with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPA). Kathryn’s role in Mercia involves conducting compliance reviews and the maintenance of audit technical products.
