Please join us on Tuesday 18th May 2021 to hear our three illuminating guest speakers share their knowledge, experience and views on “Adapting in a Post-Brexit Environment – How businesses are finding their new way”. This event is being brought to you by the Business Leaders' Forum (BLF).

 

Our guest speakers for this event are Carol Lynch, Partner at BDO  Customs & International Trade Services, John Mc Grane, Director General, British Irish Chamber of Commerce and, Bernard Sheehy (FCCA), Finance Director for Brown Thomas Arnotts. The event is being hosted by our BLF panel member, Michael Binchy.

 

Each of our speakers has extensive first hand experience in preparing for BREXIT, managing through the initial transition phase and dealing with the early challenges and issues that have emerged. They are looking forward to sharing these insights and learnings with us, as well as taking a look at the potential future strategic direction and opportunities.

 

Bernard Sheehy, Finance Director, Brown Thomas Arnotts

Bernard is an FCCA of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and has held various senior financial and commercial roles across many industries from Financial Services and Aircraft Leasing to Media and Advertising.

Bernard currently works in retail and has been working for Brown Thomas and the Selfridges Group for twenty years, particularly involved in Supply Chain, Systems Implementation, Change Management & Corporate restructuring.

Bernard has accumulated considerable expertise in most aspects of Financial Management at Group, Subsidiary, and Single Company levels. Close involvement with the development and implementation of computer-based systems over many years has enabled Bernard to play an active role in their introduction in different environments.

 

John McGrane, Director General British Irish Chamber of Commerce

John is Director-General of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce, a private sector organisation which John co-founded in 2011 to represent businesses with interests in the two islands and their economies. John is also the Executive Director of the Family Business Network Ireland and Founder of Kmend.com, the tech start-up that helps trade growth.

Retired from a forty-year career in business banking, his interests weave through commerce, culture, and community. John sits on the Boards of Fishamble: The New Play Company and the Irish Film Institute and he has led numerous public policy initiatives including the Government’s Forum on Philanthropic Funding of the Arts and the creation of the National Concert Hall Quarter

 

Carol Lynch, Partner at BDO Customs and International Trade Services

Carol has more than 25 years of experience in customs and international trade. Carol is currently heavily involved in advising clients on the impact of Brexit and is working with a number of high-profile companies in this regard. Carol has been requested to present to the Oireachtas Finance Committee on the impact of Brexit for traders in Ireland and also presents on behalf of Chambers Ireland and InterTrade Ireland. Carol is part of a number of working groups including that of the British Irish Chambers of Commerce and the Revenue Commissioners and also contributes to various media (print and radio) with regard to the Customs issues which may arise post-Brexit. Carol has significant expertise in customs, excise, export controls, anti-dumping, audits, and investigations.

 Carol also has significant experience working with clients in the aviation and aircraft leasing, food and drink, pharmaceutical companies, consumer electronics, and software sectors along with general manufacturing.
