Theo studied civil engineering at University College Cork and finance and management at INSEAD Business School, Paris. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland.
Theo joined BAM (formally Ascon) in 1979 as a graduate engineer. He gained experience on a wide range of construction projects, initially in the heavy civil engineering sector. He was appointed director in 1990 and a Main Board Director in 2000, with responsibility for civil engineering, building contracting and property development.
He has extensive knowledge and is experienced in all aspects of BAM’s core businesses from civil engineering to building works and from property development to our PPP activities. Since taking over leadership of the business in very difficult market conditions, he has successfully managed BAM’s operations and activities to reflect market size and conditions.
High profile projects that Theo has directed include: M25 River Suir Bridge and Waterford Bypass PPP; Schools Bundle 3 PPP; N7 / N11 – Arklow Rathnew / Newlands Cross PPP; New Terminal Development at Cork Airport; Cork County Hall Development; UCC IT Building; M7 / M8 Portlaoise Bypass PPP and the NUI Galway Engineering Building.
More recently, steered by Theo, BAM Contractors has expanded its operations internationally, working in joint venture with fellow Royal BAM Group companies. This expansion of activities includes projects in Jordan, UAE and Scotland. Projects include: New Port of Aqaba in Jordan and a New Stadium and Hotel Development at Al Ain (UAE).
