Dean Roche, Head of Finance at St. Raphael's Garda Credit Union (“St. Raphael’s”). 

 

St. Raphael's was established in 1964 and has progressed to become Ireland's largest credit union, with assets in excess of €500m and over 37,000 members throughout Ireland. Members of the Credit Union include serving & retired members of An Garda Síochána (and their families) and Garda staff & reserves.  Prior to joining St. Raphael’s, Dean was a Director in EisnerAmper Ireland (“EAI”) providing audit, advisory and forensic accounting services to clients in the financial services sector including credit unions, government departments, state agencies and leading corporates. During Dean’s time in EAI, his work in the credit union sector included working and/or liaising with credit unions (>100), credit union regulators (Central Bank of Ireland) and other bodies (e.g. Department of Finance, ReBo and Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board).

 

Derek A. Fuzzell, CMA, CSCA, CPA,Chief Financial & Strategy Officer of PAHO/WHO Federal Credit Union

 

Derek Fuzzell serves as the Chief Financial & Strategy Officer of PAHO/WHO Federal Credit Union in Washington, D.C., which provides financial services to the global health community. In Derek’s role he oversees Finance, Accounting, Lending, Human Resources, Business Development, Strategic Planning, and Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. In his career as a Credit Union Professional, Derek has led two mergers, unwound two acquisitions, and has served in various capacities in Operations, Accounting, and Finance. Derek was recognized by the Credit Union Executive Society as a finalist for the 2017 Next Top Credit Union Executive competition for his work on educating employees of credit unions on how business strategy is derived from the disciplines Finance, Accounting, Risk, and Economics. Derek also serves on the Board of Directors for the D.C. Chapter of the Maryland/D.C. Credit Union Association. 

 

Michelle O'Donoghue, Director at RBK 

 

Michelle is a Director in our Governance, Risk and Assurance team where she has responsibility for the delivery of statutory audit, internal audit, risk management, compliance and other assurance type engagements to our clients.  These clients include Credit Unions, Financial Services, Government bodies and Not for Profit organisations.

Michelle is a regular speaker at our annual Credit Union seminar. She also assists in the provision of training for Boards of Credit Unions and Charities on topics such as governance, board reporting and risk management.  Michelle has assisted Chartered Accountants Ireland, Omnipro and the LIA to deliver their CPD programmes covering areas such as preparation for the statutory audit, the internal audit process and risk management.

Prior to joining RBK, Michelle worked with the Dublin office of UK firm Smith & Williamson where she was a senior manager within the audit department. 

Michelle is a fellow member of Chartered Accountants Ireland and holds a BSc in Accounting from University College Cork. In 2014, Michelle was awarded a Certificate in FRS 102 and in 2009 she was awarded a Diploma in IFRS from Chartered Accountants Ireland.

 

Paddy Ryan, Senior Actuary at Aon 

 

Paddy Ryan is a senior actuary with Aon where he has worked since 2003. Since qualifying as an actuary, he has been responsible for providing actuarial and consultancy advice in relation to occupational pension schemes to a wide range of sponsors, pension scheme trustees and pension scheme members. This includes advice on funding, risk management, benefit design and restructuring, merger and wind-ups, disclosures for company accounts, impact of corporate transactions.

Paddy has also been involved in a numbers of DB pension restructuring exercises which included union negotiations under the WRC and Labour Court and member communications exercises.

He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK) and holds a Scheme Actuary practice certificate from the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. Paddy has a first class honours B.Sc. in Financial Mathematics and Economics from NUI Galway and is a Qualified Financial Advisor with the LIA.
