For the event, we will be joined by leading experts in the industry; John McInerney - Managing Director of PAFS, Brian Brennan - Aviation Tax Partner at KPMG, Shane O’Neill - CEO Atlantic Aviation Group and Declan Kelly - Chairman of Aircraft Leasing Ireland, who will share insights on the structure of the industry and the vital role played by supporting service providers and professional firms.
During the event, we will look at how Ireland has become a global leader in the aviation industry - an astonishing success story with over 50% of the world’s leased commercial aircraft managed from Ireland and over 30 of the global aircraft leasing companies operating here.

Shane O'Neill, Chief Executive Officer, Atlantic Aviation Group
Shane joined Atlantic Aviation Group in October 2015 as Chief Operations Officer and was responsible for driving the development and implementation of the operations strategy. In 2017, Shane assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer of the organisation and has continued the company’s drive towards growth and profitability through the development of employees and strong customer relationships.
Prior to joining Atlantic Aviation Group, Shane spent over 10 years with an indigenous Irish technical services company as commercial manager delivering technical support solutions to US multinational companies based in Ireland. An Executive MBA graduate from NUIG and an L4G participant in 2019, he has a passion for business and for developing and growing people within organisations to achieve business objectives.
Brian Brennan, Tax Partner- KPMG
Brian is a Partner in our Financial Services tax practice in KPMG, specialising in the asset management and aviation finance and leasing sectors. Brian has significant experience in Irish taxation and international taxation matters and has presented briefing seminars to clients on these matters.
Brian advises a wide range of clients, both domestic and international, on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, asset management and fund establishment issues, aviation financing, leasing, banking, structured finance and securitisations. He has significant experience in advising on international financing and leasing structures and the operation of tax treaties.
John McInerney, Managing Director – PAFS Ireland Ltd
John is the Managing Director of Phoenix American Financial Services’ aviation operations in Ireland. Having served Phoenix American in a number of different roles John was appointed as Managing Director of PAFS Ireland in 2018.
PAFS Ireland provides a wide variety of outsourced accounting, administration and cash management services for aircraft and engine leasing transaction of every size, scope and complexity with special focus on the asset backed securitisation market. John and his seasoned team of 50+ aviation professionals service a wide range of entities with a combined fleet of 1,400+ aircraft and engine assets exceeding $36 billion in value at original issuance. Prior to joining Phoenix American, John worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dublin and Boston and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant.
Declan Kelly, Chair - Aircraft Leasing Ireland (ALI)
Declan Kelly is Chair of ALI, the representative body for aircraft leasing companies in Ireland. Declan assumed the role in July 2020 and will serve as Chair until July 2022.
During his career, Declan has a held a number of senior roles in the aircraft leasing industry, spanning a 30-year period. Declan began his career with Aer Lingus, later joined GPA and has most recently held the role of Chief Commercial Officer in GECAS, the largest aircraft leasing company in Ireland. Declan has spent much of his career outside of Ireland and currently resides in the US. His main focus during his tenure as Chair of ALI, will be to increase the visibility of the aircraft leasing industry as a single coordinated voice, improve education and skills for the sector, expand Ireland's network of tax treaties, Covid-19 recovery and develop initiatives for digitalization platforms, ESG and sustainability which are imperatives for our collective future.
