Reference:EssExcel2026
Book online

Overview:

Excel remains one of the most widely used tools in finance and accounting, yet many professionals only scratch the surface of what it can do. Small improvements in how spreadsheets are structured, analysed and managed can save significant time and reduce the risk of errors.

In this session, we’ll explore practical Excel techniques that every accountant should know to work more efficiently with financial information. This session focuses on essential capabilities that support day-to-day accounting work.

During the session we will cover:

  • Structure Data Effectively - Work with Excel Tables, structured references and good spreadsheet design practices to create more reliable models.

  • Conditional Formatting - Use colour scales, icons, and rules to automatically highlight KPIs, targets, deadlines, and variances, turning raw data into instantly understandable visuals.

  • Work Faster with Everyday Productivity Features – Improve speed with shortcuts, tricks of the trade, and utilise everyday Excel features to handle typical Excel frustrations.

  • Link Financial Data with Lookup Techniques – Retrieve and connect information across spreadsheets using XLOOKUP and modern lookup methods for reconciliations, reporting and financial analysis.

  • PivotTables in Action - Discover how to quickly summarise and analyse datasets using PivotTables — one of Excel’s most powerful yet accessible reporting tools.

By the end of this session, you'll have the techniques to apply immediately in your work for greater efficiency. It’s time to feel confident in Excel.
