Overview:

Our Power BI Masterclass provides practical, hands-on training to help delegates build professional reports, dashboards, and data models using Microsoft Power BI.

The programme is delivered across four focused workshops, covering everything from data preparation and visualisation to advanced DAX and publishing techniques.

Course agenda:

Session 1: Power BI Foundations & Data Preparation

02 Nov 2026 – 10:00-13:00

Overview

Build a strong foundation in Power BI by exploring the core tools, interface, and reporting workflow. In this hands-on session, participants will learn how to connect to data sources, import and clean data using Query Editor, and create their first interactive visuals. By the end of the session, attendees will understand the essential building blocks required to confidently start developing reports in Power BI.

This session covers:

  • Brief overview of the tools (Power BI Service, Power BI Desktop, Power BI Mobile) and comparison with Power Query and Power Pivot
  • Overview data importation
  • Preview of the example report that will be created during the training
  • Explore the desktop interface: Report, Data and Model views, Visualizations panel, etc
  • Connect to single source data using Direct Query and importing
  • Clean data using Query Editor: filter, remove rows, replace vales etc.
  • Edit, rename and delete the applied steps – create calculated columns
  • Creating simple visuals

Session 2: Interactive Reporting & Dashboard Design

05 Nov 2026 – 10:00-13:00

Overview

Take your reporting skills further by learning how to design engaging and interactive Power BI dashboards. This session focuses on creating impactful visualisations, applying filters and slicers effectively, enabling drill-through analysis, and implementing best-practice report design techniques. Participants will also learn how to publish reports to the Power BI Service and share insights with others.

This session covers:

  • More in depth overview of visuals - table and matrix visualisation – conditional formatting
  • Overview of slicers vs filters
  • Filters at visual level, page level and report level.
  • Top N, generating drill through pages,
  • Overview of visual interaction, grouping visualisations etc.
  • Best practises for designing a report (e.g., Themes, illustrations, Filters and Slicers)
  • Saving work in progress files and .pbix files
  • Publishing simple report to Power BI workspace

Session 3: Data Modelling & Multi-Source Analysis

02 Dec 2026 – 09:30-12:30

Overview

Discover how to work with multiple datasets and unlock deeper business insights through effective data modelling. Participants will learn how to connect and relate data from different sources, create hierarchies, manage relationships, and use date tables to enhance reporting capabilities. This session provides the practical skills needed to build scalable and dynamic analytical reports.

This session covers:

  • Connect to multiple sources of data creating relationships
  • Clean data using Query Editor: filter, remove rows, replace vales, create and modify columns, calculation, date, merge text
  • Working with hierarchies
  • Build visuals from multiple data sources
  • How filters and slicers work with 1 – many relationships
  • Import a Date Table and link to date fields on other data sources

Session 4: Advanced DAX & Power BI Publishing

Overview

Master the advanced features that bring Power BI reports to life. This session introduces key DAX concepts including calculated columns, measures, and time intelligence functions such as YTD and MTD calculations. Participants will also explore advanced report functionality including bookmarks and customised views, before learning how to publish, share, and export professional reports for business users.

This session covers:

  • Overview of Calculated columns vs Measures
  • Introduce DAX functions for manipulating Dates – YTD, MTD, etc
  • Aggregate functions – SUM, SUMX, CALCULATE, RELATED, RELATEDTABLE, SELECTED VALUE
  • Overview of Bookmarks, customised views
  • Publish to Power BI workspaces, save as PDF.
