Brian Ruane, Executive Vice President at BNY Mellon

 

Brian Ruane is an Executive Vice President at BNY Mellon, a member of the Executive Committee for Pershing, a BNY Mellon company, and a member of BNY Mellon’s Global Operating Committee. Brian is also a member of The Board and Operating Committee of Promontory Interfinancial Network. He is responsible for Broker-Dealer Services, U.S. Tri-Party Services and Global Clearing. Brian is also responsible for Banks, Broker Dealer and Investment Advisor Market and Alternative Asset Manager Segments. Prior to his current role, Brian was co-lead of Pershing Prime Services, and CEO of BNY Mellon’s Alternative Investment Services (AIS). In this role, he established the AIS prime custody business which remains one of the fastest growth businesses at the company.

 

Brian has helped drive industry change by serving on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Working Committee on The Future of The U.S. Government Securities Markets in 2004 and more recently the industry Task Force for Tri-Party Repo Infrastructure Reform.

 

Brian is a member of the advisory board of The UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business and The Frank G. Zarb School of Business, from which he received an MBA in international finance. Born in the U.S. and raised in Ireland, Brian is also a graduate of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants in the UK and Ireland.

Stephen Carson is a Partner in the Asset Management & Investment Funds Group at A&L Goodbody. Stephen advises international asset management firms and investment banks in relation to the establishment and authorisation of all types of investment funds including UCITS, AIFs, hedge funds, property funds, money market funds (MMFs) and exchange traded funds (ETFs) as well as authorisation of UCITS management companies and alternative investment fund managers (AIFMs). Stephen also acts for the promoters of, and service providers to, Irish domiciled investment funds including investment managers, fund administrators and custodians in relation to custody, administration, prime brokerage and other service agreements. Stephen is currently advising clients on all aspects of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) and as well as the opportunities presented by the new ICAV vehicle. Stephen regularly speaks at international conferences and other industry events. Stephen is the chairperson of the Irish Funds association's Working Group on ELTIFs and Loan Funds, was a member of the Marketing Committee of the Irish Funds association from 2012 to 2014 and currently is a member of the Events Committee of the Irish Fund association.
